Jakub Klecker

Jakub Klecker (born 1982) is a distinguished young Czech conductor. After studying conducting with Jiří Bělohlávek and Tomáš Koutník at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, he has joined the music staff of the Janáček Opera of the National Theatre in Brno in 2007 and developed a broad opera repertoire for the company. In 2013 and 2014 he served as its chief conductor. In January 2013 he gave his debut at the Staatstheater Nürnberg with Verdi’s Aida. Within the Janáček Opera’s tour to Oman in May 2014, he conducted Dvořák’s Rusalka. His guest performances have led him to the National Theatre in Prague (Bizet’s Carmen, Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro and Ballettissimo). Since 2015/16 season, he has been music director of the Opera of the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava. In this season he will conduct for the opera house new productions of La Clemenza di Tito and Bedřich Smetana’s The Secret and he also returns back to Brno with new production of Dvořák’s Kate and the Devil.
His broad opera repertoire includes major works of both the world and the Czech music: Mozart’s Idomeneo, Rossini’s La Cenerentola, Verdi’s masterpieces Nabucco, La Traviata and Aida, Bizet’s Carmen, Puccini’s Tosca and Turandot, Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer, Smetana’s The Brandenburgers in Bohemia, The Kiss and The Bartered Bride, Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Janáček’s Šárka, Jenůfa, The Cunning Little Vixen and The Fate, Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress and Martinů’s Juliette, The Marriage and The Miracles of Mary.
In symphonic and oratorio music Jakub Klecker regularly works with most Czech orchestras including Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, Prague Symphony Orchestra, PKF – Prague Philharmonia, Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra, Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra Olomouc and The Czech Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Pardubice. His engagements took him also to Orchestra Filarmonica di Udine and Jaener Philharmonie. In 2007 and 2009 he has conducted Brno Philharmonic Orchestra within the Japan tour. He has also appeared at the Prague Spring International Music Festival (2009 and 2016), Brno International Music Festival (a. o. Honneger’s Jeanne d’Arc), Smetana’s Litomyšl International Opera Festival, Rheingau Musik Festival and many others.
Since 2006 Jakub Klecker has been an Artistic Leader of the Kantiléna Youth Choir, who under his guidance has garnered several prizes at international choir competitions in abroad (Neerpelt 2006, Graz 2008, Gorizia 2011, Wales 2013, Magdeburg 2015). Since 2014 he has taught conducting at the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno.
